Download & installation FAQ

Is sideloading safe?

Yes, when you download from our official domain. Sideloading simply means installing an app outside the Play Store. We use the same security and code signing practices as any published app. Never download APKs from unknown sources.

Will I get updates?

When you first launch CarScope, it will notify you about new versions. You can download and install updates the same way as the initial installation.

Can I uninstall later?

Yes. Go to Settings > Apps, find CarScope, and tap Uninstall. You can reinstall anytime.

My phone says "Install unknown apps" setting is on, but I still can't install. Help?

Make sure you enabled the permission for your specific browser app (not just "all apps"). Also, some phones have a separate Unknown sources toggle in developer settings โ€” check there too.

Do I need a Google account?

No. CarScope works without a Google account. You only need an email to log in and subscribe.

Can I install on a tablet?

Yes, if it's Android 7+. Tablets work great for reading diagnostics while plugged in at the car.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Reading live data and trouble codes works completely offline. VIN lookup and recall checking require internet, but you can use CarScope anytime for diagnostics without being online.

Where is my data stored?

All scan data and trip history are stored on your phone's local storage. We never upload OBD2 readings. Only your email is stored on our servers (for billing), and that's encrypted.
